EDIT: On a serious note the article blurs if you have an ad-blocker (reader mode fixes it, though) and the first half of it talking about convenience doesn’t fit for me because I hardly ever buy things (I also haven’t known anyone in a while so there’s no ‘running into’ anyone, and I live in a lower-density area).

Also 1080p 10-bit probably has good encoding. DVD content probably not-so-much, particularly in the era when it was expected to be viewed on CRT screens where some softness was intended (in other words, the same thing that happened with pre-HDMI consoles and flat panel displays).
