It’s mindboggling how humanity managed to find a source of such abundant, cheap, scalable and relatively clean energy… and then certain political entities demonized it and fucked it all up.
In my lifetime I’ve seen 2 reactors blow up and at least one being fought over during a war. That does not sound safe at all
The thing is: We really do know where a good place to store the waste is. It’s in the Bavarian Forest near the Czech border. Where the Czech also want to store their waste. Solid granite mountains. Sparsely populated area. We could simply start drilling some test caves and be done with it in a few years. This is, however, not possible because of our regional bavarian party. So we have to do this dance and pretend to search in the whole country for the best spot, which will of course be this perfect spot in Bavaria.
Whatever you are buying: If you have some device in mind, check the idle power consumption. Your server is running 24/7/365. If you buy something with a high consumption, that will be hard on your power bill.

I disagree. Those items are still being manufactured and will still be imported into the EU. Nobody in China is closing their factory, they are searching for other ways to get those items to customers in the EU. And if you have been paying attention: I’ve seen those cheap chinese chargers and electronics in retail stores. In those 1€ stores. At flea markets. Ebay is full of local dropshipping companies. This will just make everything more expensive.
(and it sucks that companies can outsource their production to cheaper countries while the government is preventing the people from outsourcing their buying to cheaper countries, too)

It really does look like Ukraine has gotten an edge here - it was crazy seeing all those burning refineries this month. That has to hurt the Russians. And those videos of the drone strikes on the logistic lines are also crazy. There is no way that Russia can keep this up for long - those long range strikes are systematically destroying key industry and those strikes in the back of the front lines will also have quite the effect. I can imagine a situation where the front lines will run out of ammunition and collapse - without fuel, trucks can’t drive. And when those trucks are destroyed by drones, you can’t deliver what’s needed to the front.
And this is so problematic. First of all, there’s really a chilling effect going on with putting your real identity to your online posts. I’m not sure if I would be posting on here if everybody could link my profile here to my real name. There is a reason why people are not discussing depression, drug use, or marital problems with their work colleagues or neighbors. And people really would not like if prospective employers could see everything they are writing online.
There’s also a chilling effect on political debate. You really do not want your home address being available to violent Neo-Nazis, Hamas supporters, Covid-deniers and other idiots. That will lead to harassment and this will lead to people stopping discussing certain topics.
That really doesn’t make much sense: The US fossil fuel barons are currently making a killing because they are the ones who are able to ship LNG at inflated war prices to Europe. So why would the Trump administration try to sabotage their own industry? That industry who payed so much to bring Trump into power?
