What is a good alternative in this context?
Quad9 DNS is a not-for-profit run by Quad9 Foundation based out of Switzerland.
They offer recursive resolvers, DNSSEC, DoH, DoT, QUIC protocol, they have the standard IPv4 and IPv6 plus have malware blocking/filtering and ECS or choose everything unfiltered.
Benefits are no-log policies, private, no data sold or shared per the transparency report
I’ve been promoting and advocating for them for probably close to a decade when I found them as a tech support guy. Personally, I’ve got my workplace setup this way, any friends and family, other businesses I consult for, and my VPN custom-configured to utilize these services.
If only they had an option with ad blocking.
That’s where something like pihole or other systems comes in handy. I’ve got 2 at home for redundancy, and they’re pointing to Quad9 for IPv4 and 6 while also blocking ads.
I would also look into eBlockerOS for a RPi, it’s newer, should be just as good, supposed to be more customizable. I’m testing 2 different ones at work for fun, eBlocker is one of them. See my list below of DNS systems that can utilize Quad9 as the resolver while implementing adblock

You won’t be disappointed! I’ve been in the tech/IT space since the late 90s (fuck I’m old) and I started getting weary of shit online since the late 2010s. I really started my privacy dive in 2015-2016 when I got rid of all social media. Never had an issue with Quad9!
