I’m trying to get back into making art and I know having a decent place to share it with others is essential. No point in making something nobody will see.

I’m hoping someone here knows about a decent platform to share content, which also has a No AI stance (and hopefully, measures taken against ai mining).

So far the only one I heard of was Cara, and it’s not bad but it didn’t hook me. Maybe I should give it another go, I haven’t checked it in a long time. Last time I checked, it relied on artists using nightshade and other poisons, but iirc those methods are always lagging behind in the arms race, and require the artist constantly re-updating with newly poisoned versions of their work. This can get very time consuming.

I know Artstation lets you label no ai on your work, but I don’t think that actually does anything that protects my work from getting mined.

One important thing is that I need to be able to post with my real name, so I don’t believe another community here will be the final answer. However, having said that, if you know of any solid art or artist communities where these topics are discussed frequently feel free to point me that way. I would still benefit from getting in touch with people in a similar situation as myself.

    If it’s posted publicly, I don’t think there is a way to guarantee art will be safe from AI model training since scrapers can choose to ignore anti-AI tags added on places like Cara.app and Fediverse instances like mastodon.art that prohibit AI generated content and model training can still have their data scraped through other federated instances that allow it. You could look into communities that require a login to view content or have some kind of verification system for users. I found this list of anti-AI art platforms but have not personally tried them; maybe one of them has what you are looking for.

      That’s interesting, I didn’t know that something as simple as a login for users would deter scrapers. I figured bots get everywhere and anywhere. I’ll go through the list more thoroughly later, as they don’t disclose their privacy/login-to-view options on the list, but thank you.

        If that’s true, it’s definitely a reason to avoid the platform, but has it been confirmed?

        Paragraph 2 of their ToS could be interpreted as Cara claiming partial ownership:

        The Cara Site and all works of art (“Art”) and/or other user generated content (including without limitation commentary, images, third-party links, and similar content and/or works) (collectively the “Art And Other User Generated Content”), text, data, and other materials contained in the Cara Site are copyrighted unless otherwise noted and are the property of Cara and/or the individual artist who created any individual piece of Art And Other User Generated Content (the “Artist”).

        but then they issued this statement saying:

        Our Terms of Service grants us permission to host your images, resize, crop, & display them on Cara. Cara doesn’t own nor sell your work.

        From a quick search, there were also concerns about the third party app called Hive that they use to detect AI generated content using the art to train their own models, but Cara denies that in the statement above too.

          All trade names, trademarks, and images and biographical information of people contained in the Cara Site are either the property of, or used with permission by, Cara.

          From their ToS, they actually give themselves explicit property rights twice on top of the copyright.

          A tweet doesn’t mean anything if they give themselves rights in their ToS. The ToS wins. What’s worse is this doesn’t mean anything against scrapping, since it isn’t against the law so they can only ban offenders.
