    Cars are difinitely thing of convenience. But as long as public transport exists, it is not a necessity. On another note - 2 miles is a walking distance, or at leats it should be for a healthy individual. If you had said 20 miles probably would have gotten more compassion in community against cars.

      There’s probably about 4 buses in and out of the village every day. It’s not practical at all. I have a new born baby and walking 2 miles to get to a bus, to get to the next biggest village and on to another bus to get to the doctor’s for her vaccines is a ridiculous idea. It would take most of the day just for that one journey. Then try to do a family shop under those conditions. Cars in the UK countryside are essential, not luxuries.
