While speaking on the final night of the GOP midterm convention, Vice President JD Vance said the country was “poorer” and “dirtier” before President Donald Trump was reelected for a second term.
“We were tired of being called racists for noticing that our country was becoming dirtier and poorer, and less safe and less prosperous,” Vance said on the final day of the two-day convention in Dallas, Texas.
His sentiment appeared to reflect the administration’s efforts to combat rising immigration rates in the U.S., a key campaign point during the 2024 election. Vance himself promoted unsubstantiated claims about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, in September 2024, spreading misinformation about the community abducting and eating pets.
I said it’s bizarre to me.

But you’re a literal stranger to me, and there’s no accounting for “taste”. Such is life.
You said “It’s not surprising.” As a statement of fact. As you wrote it, it offers no leeway for an argument or an opinion and that means you are saying I’m wrong.
The way I see it… in my mind… I don’t think…I think that… You didn’t say these any countless ways to allow for my opinion to be anything other than wrong.
You chose words that didn’t allow for any other opinions in direct response to me clearly stating an experience i am currently having and have held for decades.

Not that surprising. A relative phrasing requiring the first measure to be a benchmark, e.g. “yeah, it’s kinda sad but not that sad.”
So hung up on what I “said” when it seems like you misread and misinterpreted it.
“It’s not that surprising” and then I gave examples of how you could reframe “social justice warrior” into the long history of people mocking well-meaning people who were viewed as excessive…
