That is obviously very far sub-average, but hilarious (and kind of sad?) nonetheless.
I think self driving cars are about as intelligent as a minorly sub average 12 year old, in a near panic.
Which, yeah, that’s progress and it will get better, but is nowhere near responsibly deployable in comparison to the average human being, and nowhere near even a decent driver. The only thing self driving cars have for them, ignoring the ethical disasters, shocking amount of fascism, rampant destructive corruption, and signs of an increasingly unhealthy dystopian society, and only focusing on the technological side, is that they’re relatively consistent.
Which, effectively, could be considered for an emergency backup in a case where a human literally cannot drive and the benefits outweigh the risks.
Like, yeah, it’s getting there, but so is society at becoming a utopia. The difference THERE is that we can’t just not implement society, but for some reason, all the shittiest stuff humanity has ever encountered is being given infinite chances right now.

What types of cameras do these self-driving cars use? I’m just saying, there’s got to be a way to confuse and redirect them that’s invisible to the naked human eye.

Googled it and: Standard AI cameras do not see ultraviolet (UV) or infrared (IR) light natively because manufacturers install a physical blocking filter over the image sensor
So I think it would take hacking their software somehow or poisoning their map data to do what you suggest.
I mean most general cameras have an IR and UV filter.
However many can detect NIR wavelengths like 850nm which are nearly undetectable by humans.
There was a video a while ago where a tesla took a hard 90° left turn at 60 mph directly into a tree ostensibly because of some road repair work that looked like painted lines when the sun hit them right.
Anything black and reflective, something that reflects IR or just an IR emitter like from a TV remote.
I keep wanting to make a thing that will shoot small shredded bits of aluminum foil. I have the feeling this could make a self driving car stop if it uses radar.
I have a car with some limited self-driving capability, I should just try it out.

so, and please forgive me because i have forgotten all but the two important details of this story and that really bugs me, one of my favorite artists went up and down the (i think spanish) riviera and put giant oversized beach umbrellas like every 50 feet for maybe 5 miles? it looked absolutely gorgeous. he just spiked them into the sand.
a few days went by and then the wind really picked up. and those umbrellas just went rolling down the beach. not as huge of a problem as you’d think, until you wonder about those spiky ends. I don’t remember if anyone was hurt and i hope no one or thing was.
i’ve always been inspired by the story though. wanted to do some grand gesture of art that resulted in accidental (and it’s very important that it’s accidental) very very mild environmental ecoterrorism or something like that. you never want to hurt anyone
