The owner class figured out a few generations ago that in order to keep the masses from openly revolting … you keep them fed. And you also don’t need to keep them fed that much either, you just need to keep them holding on or have access to enough food in order not to starve. Revolts and revolutions won’t happen until people start starving, near starving or are threatened with starvation.
So they’ll keep us all fed … they won’t give us big giant buffets of food … but just enough to keep us all from standing up together to try to fight anything or anyone.
Except that was about appeasing the populace by providing FREE food and entertainment.
Nowadays most Americans are priced out of both bread and circuses, though, making the violence capability of the government the only thing currently keeping the people from figuratively storming the Bastille.
