    The one issue, besides availability (both on the vendor side and banks offering it), is that as I understand it wero is basically just a somewhat more convenient direkt bank transfer. But does it also offer some form of buyer protection?

    For many things like sending money to friends or shopping at large retailers that doesn’t matter. But for buying at smaller websites that

      Buyer protection does seem to be a thing, though it relies on your PSP (Payment Service Provider) - e.g. your bank - to handle the dispute. [sources: article, payment hander, some info page]. It specifically expands upon iDEAL (what was essentially the presursor of wero in the Netherlands, which was essentially direct transfers) with buyer protection for e-commerce pruposes.
