    Be sure to look up local laws before getting a rain barrel. For some reason some cities have laws against them.

      This is sadly true. Some places are so dry that capturing rainwater can disrupt the local water table (this is a wild guess). Other places are governed by idiots.

      My city gives out rain barrels a couple times a year.
