From struggling against rising oil prices to reportedly being out of touch with the news cycle, President Donald Trump has his midterm election work cut out for him. To improve his chances of winning regardless of voters’ wishes, Trump has tried to restrict mail-in voting. Now a new report reveals that Democrats in at least one state have plans to counter Trump’s attempted meddling.

“New Mexico officials are talking to FedEx and UPS about using their companies to deliver mail ballots instead of the Postal Service, said Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver (D),” reported The Washington Post’s Patrick Marley and Justin Jouvenal on Sunday. “The cost would be manageable because the state sends out a relatively small number of mail-in ballots, she said. ‘We are still planning for plan B in a worst-case scenario,’ she said. ‘There are other ways to deliver ballots.’”

        The funny thing is that vote at home states have several weeks to vote, there’s multiple days off already included there in the weekends. So work doesn’t have to interfere with voting at all…

          Oh, I see, so because you can’t have perfect, we shouldn’t even try to make voting as accessible as possible ? Got it.

          People can also vote by mail, or even vote early in many countries (for 12 days before the actual election day, here in NZ), but I expect you’ll find a problem with that too?

          Honestly, the fact that you even tried that argument is astonishing.

        Personally, I think that there should be a two-week voting windows, and workers should get five days of paid holidays that they can freely use within the voting period. The worker chooses when to use those days, and if they fail to vote, the company they are associated with is fined for a week’s worth of the employee’s income. The employee also isn’t paid for their holiday if they don’t vote.

        This helps encourage both companies and workers to do their voting. On leap years, the employees should get an extra holiday. Coincidentally, presidential elections are held every four years.

          I somewhat agree:

          1. Give people a week to vote.

          2. Have at least 1 of these days that has 24 hour voting.

          3. No mail-in votes, as it might be bad for secret balloting (e.g. a person tells wt:thons spouse who to vote for).

          4. As I still don’t get ranked balloting, have 1/2 the seats PR and the other half with majority need to win, otherwise it’s run-offs.

          5. Allow convicts to vote—they should have a say in their own punishment, and as prison-crazy as the US is, the incarcerated there are (still) clearly a minority.

          6. No mandatory voting, and allow a “none-of-the-above.”

          1. Any US Presidential candidate who is elected and over 65 must be able to recite the US Constitution from memory, with 3 or fewer errors, within 15 minutes.
