“Believe you me” is so funny to read as a English phrase
Absolutely it sounds nonsense.
It’s perfectly grammatical, but it’s one of the few commands where the subject isn’t elided. The others that occur to me are “hear ye, hear ye,” and “look on my works, ye mighty, and despair,”from Ozymandias, both of which are definitely very old fashioned sounding.
