It IS a scare tactic. Anyone with any knowledge of polygraphs knows they don’t actually say squat. Its an interrogation method meant to make you THINK that they do.
A polygraph is just a way to get you to say shit that might incriminate you.

They can say if you’re stressed out (which you probably will be during an interrogation). They can’t reliably say if you’re lying or not.
