Pro-AI mod bans me from a bunch of communities I never even heard of because he didn’t like my criticism of the fake slop that isn’t art which he posts.

    really?

Yeah, Germany’s current government is… not great for honest and open discourse about Israel and our admins aren’t anarchist enough to risk their doors getting kicked in, their devices confiscated and our instance being shut down by openly and explicitly defying the laws of the place they live.

So besides a slew of rules against advocating oppression of minorities, harassing minorities, intentionally misgendering or deadnaming, promoting nationalist sentiments, posting Nazi symbolism and all the other sensible rules you’d expect, they’ve got a rule about not posting anything illegal in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. That includes “Death to” type calls against anything and anyone, and in Germany also includes challenging Israel’s statehood. While they don’t hunt down every small violation, they do take down the most egregious ones.

According to db0, that’s tantamount to the soldiers in 1940 “just following orders”.

There’s no shortage of people criticising our government and all its fuckery, nor do people get banned for calling out genocide, and even our admins and mods criticise Israeli actions. But once they covinced the mselves that we’re all Zionazis, any hope of civilly sorting this out went down the drain and now it’s a shitfest with no winners (except maybe the actual Nazis delighted at seeing the leftists fight each other again).

    defederated lemmy ml

No, we’re still federated with them and with a bunch of other instances I don’t particularly like, but I think it’s better to federate and let people block them than to endlessly fracture the fediverse from the outset.

We’re also defederated from a few I wish we weren’t, and I don’t personally agree with all rules and moderation decisions either. It’s not perfect, but I don’t think any place is. It has people and communities I care about, and it’s good enough for me.
