I’m looking for non-fiction books that make hope for the future. I’m burnt out.
I have done it all, for I don’t know, 30plus years now. From vegan cooking on the streets, protests, sit-ins, urban gardening projects, rural gardening, reforestation, so many things, from big movements to small projects, everything.
For various reasons, not all political, I’m pretty down and feel everything is doomed.
Any books that are more positive, we are making it or at least de could make it?
I would really apppreciate some recommendations. English or German.

For fiction, either robot and monk or the wayfarer chronicles by Becky Chambers.
This might seem like the opposite of what you asked, but it might just help you: “Burnout - the experience of political defeat” by Hannah Proctor. We all know the cycle: capitalism/imperialism/patriarchy causes a crisis–>raised consciousness–>revolutionary action–>partial gains–>violent reaction–>temporary stability–>new crisis It will only end with the worldwide victory of the revolution. As long, as the cycle goes on, we will keep experiencing both victories and defeats. Of course this can be tiring and it can lead to burnout, especially for very active comrades like yourself. The book is about acknowledging that, collecting accounts of different kinds of defeat and about “anti adaptive healing”. But only you can decide, if it would be too triggering right now to read it.
Here’s are some quotes from the book:
I hope you can give yourself permission to take time and space to heal, you deserve it. Let me close with these words by Huey Newton:
I think that the book by Proctor could really help me. Thank you for taking so much time and effort!
I read about the Glasgow protest today in another book. A nice victory! They are still in Scotland today. And the police stopped those operations almost completely in Scotland.
I will read your book recommendation :)
You’re very welcome! This came up for me and for some friends too, so I pretty much already had all those thoughts ready :)
