It seems like in very strong Dem districts this is possible, but in toss up, or weaker Dem districts, the centrists Dems are the ones that have been winning primaries.

Regardless of if he’s “seen as” wielding equivalent power to the governor, he factually, objectively, does not have the power to govern NY outside of the city. Therefore, nobody outside of the city is actually experiencing his policies firsthand.
Even then, a good policy can sometimes take time to actually produce results. To actually be able to claim his policies “don’t scale well” to the state level, we would first have to see what he would actually propose if he were governing at a state level, and then we would have to evaluate not only whether those policies are popular but whether they produce results. It’s complete and utter nonsense, absurdly premature to draw conclusions based off what some random person he’s not governing or necessarily trying to win over thinks of him, which is just based on whatever the media they consume says.
