I want to live in a world without tech billionaires.
I think these guys envision remaking Earth into something like Solaria, from Asimov’s novels, a planet where something like 20,000 people live on vast estates tended to by their robotic armies. Since this means they will have to somehow conveniently get rid of 8 billion people, it’s safe to say that they have less than zero concern for whether any of their current policies have any human cost.
Their vision is really stupid because it assumes that AGI (or more appropriately, ASI) will value them as much as they value themselves and HAHAHAHAHAHA wipes tears - I have no idea what ASI would do, but it sure as fuck wouldn’t be that.
Sounds like we should make them happy by thowing them all into the Matrix.

I hated that book, I decided to read it because I heard so much about ot and it’s fucking stupid. It creates a society that doesn’t functionally work because the government requires businesses to share their intellectual properties, I think i read 2/3 of it and just couldnt. Who is John Galt? He’s just some man who decided that the rich business leaders needed to live away from society. It feels like the book idolized these people while the people in question heat had the money to buy the ideas they needed to succeed. Ayn Rand has decent ability to articulate her ideas, Atlus Shrugged is just not it.
I read it, thought it was a good idea when I was a dumbass kid, then realized no, that doesn’t work at all. Plus rand died on welfare so.
I read The Fountainhead my first year in college and thought it was fantastic. Then I recovered from the flu and lost my virginity and thought “what the fuck did I just read?”
To be fair, patents were originally supposed to document your invention publicly in exchange for giving you seven years of exclusivity.
Now it’s a patent on a button on a website and you can beat people with licensing for decades.
Man, I disagree. It is within their power to become recluses right now. They can choose to interact with humans as much or as little as they want.
I think it’s more that they want adulation, they believe themselves worthy of it and deserving it. And they want the power of life and death over the masses to gain that adulation.
You are not understanding the situation, the degree to which they are vastly outnumbered is staggering and they must fully understand that if even a small percentage of the general population could organise and mobilise then everything the billionaires have could be very easily taken from them. The idea that they and their families could be overrun at any moment, and with legitimate cause to redistribute wealth, no matter what security or even armies they have in place to protect them must be a constant fear weighing on them. At present the threat is neutralised by propaganda and manipulation of the law and governing powers but that method is an endless juggling act and not wholly reliable, and there are historical precedents for it failing. The obvious solution is a winnowing of the general population down to numbers that could be managed by security measures but for this an alternative workforce must be found.
It’d be a lot better and easier to just live in a world without them 🤷
