In my misguided earlier years, I worked for a “libertarian” think tank that worked on behalf of Uber, Lyft, Amazon, tobacco companies, and many others. They were internally floating a proposal to legalize individuals selling their own organs. They weren’t joking.

    :)

And crucially, it’s also a fantasy held by certain influential elites who believe their power should supersede the actual government and the voters who decide how it’s run.

haha, the author thinks that influential elites superseding government and voters is a fantasy. Smoke another bowl, friend

US voters have wanted universal healthcare since the 90s (at least). Forty years later…

I’m starting to think the robot things from The Matrix didn’t figure out to enslave us out of nowhere. Like I’m pretty sure we legit gave them the idea and they just ran with it.

If you want the actual canon, they did it as an act of mercy for their creators, even after humanity blacked out the sun/sky causing a global permanent ecological collapse. They could have just let humanity perish with no deficit to themselves.

It’s only slavery for the humans because they’re unhappy inside the matrix (due to the hedonic treadmill and philosophical concepts of freedom, agency, and reasons).

Outside the matrix, billions of humans and no agriculture means they’d be dead.

It’s a commonly overlooked portion of the story because it’s a bit too cerebral for the movie going audience; I highly recommend watching The Animatrix (canon prequel) for the full details

“yes I could help you build a peaceful society where crime is unheard of and poverty is elimin-”

“No see we just want you to do it but keep poor people poor so they know their place”

“Uh I think I’m just gonna take over from here”

      “Sure whatever”

And Agent Smith is just the old program that is still pissed off and knows that whatever fucked up system they made is still magnitudes better than whatever we’d have come up with. And they let us keep existing in the 90s. lol sounds like they basically gave us our version of heaven as best they could.

They fight Neo because they know that, if humans win and earn freedom, it’s back to the same capitalist bullshit eventually and we destroy the planet for everyone.

Once they can grow a human body without a mind, we will have factory farming of humans. These psychopaths have no boundaries.

That would mean they plan to provide food and lodging for us, which seems optimistic to me.

It puts the lotion on its skin, or it gets no food again. We need your skin Grade AA before we harvest it for facelifts.

Your body can produce electricity to power the data centers to serve you misinformation and ads through your Meta Cortex Interface. “Housing” might be a generous interpretation but they will keep you alive as long as you output more energy than your body costs to keep alive. The future is bright.

The Church of the United Magnet is founded as of this writing. The goal is to unite the world from the North Pole to the South Pole against this frivolous waste of valuable fluids.

    • The article doesn’t state what the reason would be. The transcript of the podcast mentions “farming” once and does not say why “A.I.” would do it.

On the podcast, the professor talks about the “artificial state”; Human governance by A.I. which is owned by corporations. She mentions of A.I. would treat humans the same way we currently treat animals (factory farmed). But again, no mention as to why A.I. would do this.

Does she explain it in her book? Who knows.

If nothing else to feed ego. What’s the point if you don’t have billions of people to be wealthier than?
