There is precedent for naming ships after living US presidents, but in both cases, the person had been out of office for years and had served in the Navy aboard the type of ship that bears their name.
- USS Jimmy Carter: An attack submarine commissioned in 2005. Carter was a nuclear technician with the Navy in the early days of nuclear submarines, and died in 2024
- USS George H. W. Bush: an aircraft carrier commissioned in 2009. Bush was flew torpedo bombers in WWII and died in 2018
If the army ever commissions a golf cart, maybe that would be appropriate.
