Linwei Ding faces up to 10 years in prison for each count of economic espionage.
Priedeman insisted that Ding purposefully spent hours removing confidentiality markings when copying information to his notes and organizing the notes into specific folders on his personal Google Drive that corresponded to different parts of Google’s business.

He got greedy and complacent. He forgot that corruption/crime is far more risky if you try to steal from well connected oligarch gangs.
Running away to China would have been a far smarter move. That’s one place were American entities can’t reach you no matter what (I believe China didn’t do anything about local Fentanyl precursor suppliers until the issue became high level).
