Peter Mandelson should be prosecuted for whatever crimes he committed, and then punished accordingly if found guilty.
Is this actually possible to do? Iirc it requires a trial before parliament which is now illegal under international law
Not sure what kind of trial you’re referring to, the bbc is saying that either the Lords could vote him out or he could be removed with new legislation which apparently is difficult. Starmer has already said he should go, seems like there is at least some chance it will happen.
New legislation is probably the easiest way.
Just looked it up, to remove a peer from the house is possible through the house since 2014, however to remove the title Lord, it requires an act of parliament. Although with labour having a majority control of the Commons and the other parties possibly agreeing with such an act, that’ll likely pass easily.
…and he’s resigned. Good that he’s gone quickly but hope it doesn’t detract from the police investigation.
He’s still a “Lord” in title I believe
