I got laid off at the beginning of March, and the job hunt is fucking brutal. I’m a software engineer with 20+ years of experience, and it’s just all AI now. Most companies just never respond, and if I’m lucky, I get to be interviewed by an AI chat bot, and then immediately rejected. I’m thinking about just going into the trades at this point.
They’re still high on AI and the inevitable hangover is a few years down the line still. Maybe you can focus on your own software projects for a bit and take this time to do some work away from computers?
Honestly, being unemployed is a good time to fuck around and find out for any pet projects that you’ve been like “I’ll get to that… EVENTUALLY”, so whilst you’re looking maybe do some of those?
If you’re lucky you might even make something that you can sell
But first and foremost the goal is to keep the mind busy, really, so that you feel less stressed
