This is a genuine question. I’ve considered myself pro-train, but I’ve apparently never realized how vulnerable rails are, given the derailments in the UK due to heat. Is a large rail network even possible in the US? Would tornado season kill it in the midwest? Would the huge daily temperature changes in the southwest cause derailments?
Bribe every county commissioner and city councilman, and you can have anything you want.
Because trains benefit mainly working class people, not the rich.
Well, okay, but this one is a difficult one to really take too seriously, because just obtaining all the needed land for rail is difficult, while the cameras, for example, go up on municipal right-of-way.
So while there are probably tons of examples that are legit, this one actually kinda sucks on the logic/accuracy side, even if it is still relevant.
I hate to say, but it is truthy, not truth. But close to good points.

Data centers seem to have little issue getting the land. Trains in France, Japan, and many other countries have no issue getting the land
It’s difficult because we have policies in place to make it difficult
Yeah I looked at this and was like, that’s like comparing apples and bowling balls.
People who build trains: intentional, making long term plans, interested in the impact of their actions
People who build data centers and surveillance equipment: rash, focused on this quarter’s profit, insulated from the impact of their actionsTrains in the US take so long to build because of bureaucratic red tape intentionally designed to make it as slow and expensive as possible
The current government actively supports big tech, they even put a 10 year pause on any regulations regarding it. So big tech is going to squeeze every penny out of that before this fever dream is over - one way or another.
Building a train network requires real planning and co-operation, more than just that simplisitc “line go up” mentality.
Train people know that you have to do these preparation periods in prime numbers.
