I want a horror movie set in a doomed aircraft carrier themed around the death of an Empire.

got out of the army because I had no faith in the officer class making rational decisions. no ideas about this story other than to say enlisted ranks don’t kill each other but will kill officers who make bad calls that threaten survival. last i heard navy was backing down to avoid losing an aircraft carrier. long way around africa because Suez canal is now too dangerous. great leadership as per usual. officers are mostly a bunch of college educated yes men, trying to make rank.

later blue collar jobs, i was despised as ‘book smart’ by supposed high-school grads as lacking hands–on experience. but, I learn fast and out-performed thanks to my book smarts. military gives officers experience in killing troops. not the same

There’s no way this is true. Seven sailors dead and the only outlet reporting it is an Iranian outlet? How would they obtain this information? I call propaganda.

You think Fox Nuws would report this?

Indian news outlets are reporting it but they all reference one Iranian source. Strange propaganda. Seven is an oddly specific number, but the number killed in a collision with the USS Fitzgerald in 2017.

Trying to find more info on this. Not sure the source is credible, but I also don’t find the navy reporting credible (not that they have made a statement that I can find)

I’ve found the same facts reported on other non-mainstream sites, while today mainstream outlets are reporting that sailors are jumping overboard. Remember to consider the fact that you (Well, I at least) are an American in the American media sphere, and that America has fairly right control over their media ecosystem.

Yeah I found those too. Seems like a shit show. This isn’t even the air craft carrier that has been having all the problems we have been seeing over the past months

1: This is a mutiny-level casualty count. There has been exactly one mutiny in US naval history serious enough to kill people during it or prompt executions afterwards, in 1842.

2: You’ve clearly never been in a fight. Seven people don’t die in “brawls”. Seven people definitely don’t die in brawls with less than a hundred people in them.

A person who fell funny and hit their head in the exact wrong way, sure. Seven is people getting shot.

3: Explain how, exactly, you think a fight that big could exist on a ship in the first place. Then go look up tours of combat ships on YouTube to compare what you think they are versus what they actually are.

Now if a real news agency starts reporting a mutiny on the ship violently put down by the onboard Marines in their first mutiny suppression in a century, I’ll believe that, because you can not hide that. In the meantime maybe just don’t believe literally everything you want to believe because legitnews.ipromise.io says so

Relax my friend. Nobody is saying this story is true as reported. But a gentle reminder that you live in a propaganda sphere cannot tilt you this hard, ease up.

EDIT: this is an Iranian news site, so assume everything they post is disinformation unless any reputable org runs it.

    WTaF!

Is morale and conditions so bad they’re literally killing each other within their own units?

How is this not being blasted across all the media, this is big?

Yeah I know the answer, it’s just mind-boggling how quickly the media collapsed and became state run.

Still I haven’t seen much of it on msnow, pbs or democracy now…or even across lemmy. One article, this one we’re talking on is first I’ve seen. I caught wind conditions and food was bad but this, killing each other is fucking wild.

I wouldn’t say I’ve “bought” into it, I made comment wondering why not any other coverage. I didn’t repost, share or say anything to anyone else irl. I was literally going through the process of sussing it out. Your comment is a reminder even though your reply is clearly demonstrating what an asshole you are.
