Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers may soon be outfitted with gloves that can deliver painful electric shocks that are intended to gain compliance from combative individuals.
Alright, here’s my haphazard attempt to figure these things out.
Electricity flows through a path of least resistance, in this case: finger to finger, but through your body nonetheless. That being said, this is not a full-body shock, it only flows through the point in which skin is in contact with the glove at both points. I’ll mention the importance of this later.
Now, the parameters of the electricity are where the rubber meets the road, it can be a strong momentary impulse, or a weaker sustained current. A strong, sustained current is likely too risky for ICE agents, because you know damn well they’re gonna shock themselves eventually, and complain to their superiors. That being said, the strong impulse current would likely fall under the same umbrella. This leaves us with a weaker, sustained current as the theorized output.
Under those parameters, the goal is seemingly the following: Grasping an individual on exposed skin, the immediate area around the hand will be subject to a sustained low-power electricity. This will not incapacitate, yet it will contribute to overstimulation and moving the limb will be inhibited. In my interpretation, it seems likely the idea is to grab an exposed arm to make for an easier time in bringing someone to the ground. May not be the Galvaknuckles, but I’d sure panic if my arm started throbbing when someone grasped it.
My money says this thing contacts someone’s face within the first week of deployment.
