I would give way less of a shit about people’s beliefs if more of them acted like El-sayed, as it stands with all other things being equal if I see two candidates and one of them professes to be a Christian and the other is anything else I’m gonna vote for the non-Christian every single time because they have been trying to shoehorn themselves into public policy my entire life. Even when I was a Christian I hated that’s shit, and in many ways that’s what led me to question and ultimately become antagonistic to that faith, but I digress.
I’ve never seen a group of Muslims trying to get the Pillars of Islam in every classroom. Or trying to ban alcohol sales on Saturdays. Christian’s do that shit all the time in the US.
I know all religions do shitty things, but in my life the most destructive by far has been Christianity because the loudest and influential ones take offense at the very idea that they might be wrong and the existence of anything that doesn’t reaffirm their beliefs must be destroyed.
They worship an ancient god of war who had to tell them to only worship him, and when they didn’t he drown everyone but the family of a dude who slept with his daughters. And then there’s the time he made them wander in a desert for 40 years.
Crazy thing is, I remember studying the pillars of Islam in history class before 9/11. The new textbooks we got after 9/11 started with “since George Bush kept us safe since 9/11…” like it was right on the first page. That’s when I knew we were headed full on fascism.
I’ve never once had anyone push their religious bullshit on me except Christians.
