“Donald, if you’re watching, we’ll put your name on it. You get to be the American president who finally guaranteed health care for every single American.”

Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Senator-elect from Michigan who ran on a progressive platform with Medicare for All at its center, said Friday that he doesn’t care what the policy is called so long as it passes, even during Donald Trump’s lame duck term, which will begin in January.

Appearing on Zeteo with editor-in-chief Mehdi Hasan, El-Sayed was asked if he agreed with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who a night earlier pronounced that he wasn’t so sure that if Democratic majorities in the US House and Senate passed a Medicare for All Bill that Trump wouldn’t sign it.

“If he wants to pass Trumpcare-for-All, I’m ok with it. He seems to like to put his name on things,” said El-Sayed.

I’d call it TrumpCare. So what? I’d just be glad to have it. TrumpCare would be easier/quicker to say than Medicare For All, too.

          Yes, the name is irrelevant.

Whatever it’s called you’ll be amazed by how few times you ever have to say it once you have it.

The only times I’ve had to use a word for the “universal healthcare” that we have (which doesn’t have a name) is when trying to describe it to people who don’t have it already. Everyone in the world except America will understand “healthcare” in this way to begin with. If you really need to explain something that is not, you’d explicitly use “private healthcare” or “insurance” for anything else.

It would be funny though if it was named after his wife: ‘“I don’t really care, do you?”- care"’
