When I saw they had an “AI statement” I knew it was bad news. But I didn’t expect it to be so bad, holy shit!

So basically they are recording you without your knowledge (unless you have read this document). Because they don’t tell you about it in the appointment either!

I’ve been to a couple appointments recently and the nurse/doctor didn’t say anything about this. Next time I go I’ll definitely say that I want to opt out of this shit and see their reaction.

And this is in Europe by the way.

What I find crazier is the next sentence:

You can decline the recording by informing the healthcare professional treating you at the beginning of the appointment. The recording will be deleted immediately once the functionality has generated a proposed patient record entry [own emphasis].

The way I read it, you can’t even prevent the AI from listening in, you can have the recorded conversation deleted, but only after the AI has processed it.

Damn, I hadn’t interpreted it in that way. In my mind I read the next sentence like “If you don’t opt out, the recording will be deleted immediately (…)”.

Way worse indeed if it is how you say. Not to mention that it should be opt-in anyways (or better, of course, not exist at all). The poor wording just adds to their terrible communication in this whole thing.

That’s exactly what it says. I walked out once when the doctor told me that he “relies on AI for medical advice”, and won’t be turning it off. Yeah. Fuck that, and fuck that guy.
