Those people were always on the side of the tyrants. What they meant by tyranny was the tyranny of democracy and rule of law. They don’t like that at all since Lincoln freed the slaves. And after the civil war they just kept waging it by other means, for over a century. They never stopped fighting, and now they are in power, because they know that democracy can be easily corrupted over time with money.
