Hacker reverse engineers his Samsung TV and finds on-device AI listening for your dog and baby, watching what you watch, and borrowing your soundbar’s mic if the TV doesn’t have one. Then OpenAI banned him for reverse-engineering it.

What we need is for one of the many router botnets to be used to compromise TVs en mass and feed it microphone captures if it seems the user to be a conservative.
Like Donald Trump is a pedophile, I have illegal immigrants living in my basement and Israel is an apartheid state.
Let’s do some good, by making the magats very upset.
Ever notice how people who are slopgineers write in this fucked, broken English? It’s like their brains have been deep fried.
I like to throw a few fucks and a couple of speling misteaks into my PRs, just so anyone reading them knows that all my stuff is done by hand. Fuck AI.
Horrible English was not caused by AI. Their brains were deep fired before AI.
Oh no! A person doesn’t have English as their first language. The HORROR!
I think the gutting of US public education in the seventies is more to blame, but using ai for everything certainly has a negative impact as well.
openai should ban itself and all of its users.
Samsung has been a dodgy brand for a long time, hopefully enough people get excited/outraged about all of this that it ‘goes viral’ and even the zombies start boycotting the brand.
I’m trying! Shit takes time, money, and research to replace.
Slowly getting there though.
Any idea if Mr. Log4j used ChatGPT in the process of hacking the TV? If he was asking ChatGPT questions like “what are some recently-discovered vulnerabilities in such-and-such operating system that might still be an open issue in such-and-such Samsun smart TV”, this surprises me not at all. If they were spying on his Twitter account and banned him for reasons completely unrelated to his use of ChatGPT, that surprises mea bit more, but only a bit.
Probably why they banned him. For me it shows that every prompt you put in must be approved by corporate; therefore, it useless as a tool.

This was news two months ago. Who cares what this clown did with a prompt.
the time stamp on the tweets is within the last week
He didn’t discover smart tv privacy issues. That’s been well documented for months.
more like its been well documented for years, over 10 years
