Is that what you think is going on in the photo?

The picture is showing a classroom, which is part of a school. The small people in the front are children. They’re all wearing school uniforms. Using advanced, human-level pattern-matching in our reasoning, we can make a guess that the children in the picture are attending the school as students.

What is being pointed out is that Bridget Phillipson took part in “making protests and statements about geopolitical events” herself, though in support of the UK’s current foreign policy. Lucy Powell is now saying that is inappropriate, which means her office has done something inappropriate without acknowledgement or comment.

What is being insinuated by pointing this out is that they don’t actually think it’s inappropriate, but they want to limit “making protests and statements about geopolitical events” to those that support the UK’s current foreign policy.

Rather than being interested in educating students, she’s interested in brainwashing students.

One hopes that the education system will try to give students tools to question and verify narratives, and live life with principles derived from dialectic analysis. But since that is proven false by the image, if you try to reason about this inconsistency or hypocrisy, then the likely conclusion you will draw is that Lucy Powell’s goal instead seems to be to create ignorant stormtroopers that will obediently carry out her genocides.

        Hope this helps.

There is no evidence of students being brainwashed here - and certainly not enough in the image to confirm your supposition here.

Where I live we have a fair number of Ukrainian refuges in our town. A lot of them have been here so long they have even started putting down roots and starting businesses. As you might expect this has meant we have had several tranches of Ukrainian students coming through the school. Because we teach our kids empathy and understanding and we want to be welcoming we have school assemblies for some of their key national days, just like we celebrate other cultures and religious traditions. When we have Remembrance day in a few weeks I look forward to the local Ukrainian association laying down their wreath at the war memorial along with the numerous other local civic groupings who come together for the occasion. It’s called being welcoming and helping integration.

It’s certainly a far cry from mandating school books justifying agression which we actually have documented evidence of.

You’re right, there isn’t enough information in the image itself to disprove your proposal. There isn’t even a date. But given the geopolitical circumstance and the official character of the post, an implication of geopolitical motivation can be interpreted. Let me try to find some way to measure if the implication was felt by the audience.

            Hm.

Perhaps if the audience unprompted connected the image to Russia? Aha! Yes, okay, so that would make a good piece of evidence to look for. In this case, our only audience is you. Did you link it to Russia? Actually, yes you did. You linked an article about Russia and the war in Ukraine.

Now we know that even if this was not planned as an act of indoctrination, the propaganda effect remains. 100% of our surveyed audience members linked the event to Russia.

The UK is literally forcing Zionism on students in its curriculum. I don’t think you can get more aggressive than literal genocide. This is like putting Mein Kampf in the educational books.

Are we gish-galloping to something else now? I guess I’ll bite - in what way are schools being forced to put Zionism in the curriculum. Do you have a source other than an out of context picture on someone’s Twitter post?

So which of the 8 mentions of Zionism in the report is forcing it into the curriculum? Most of the instances are either surfacing comments from the consultation or exploring it’s definition for the purposes of the report. It even says:

Criticism of Zionism, advocacy for alternative models for resolving the Israel-Palestine conflict, or criticism of Israeli government policies may not, in themselves, be antisemitic.

although it does note there can be a cross over between anti-zionism being used as code for anti-Semitism. The closest I could find was:

Recommendation 12 The Department for Education, schools and colleges should address antisemitism through appropriate places in the curriculum, tutorial time and pastoral provision. To enable this: a. The Department for Education should ensure that citizenship education has sufficient opportunity to address contemporary antisemitism, alongside other forms of hatred and prejudice, within a coherent programme of learning. b. The Department for Education should ensure schools and colleges embed high-quality teaching on media literacy and online safety, helping learners to recognise and confront harmful online content, including antisemitism and conspiracy theories. c. Schools and colleges should make effective use of tutorial time, pastoral provision and wider learning opportunities to address contemporary antisemitism alongside other forms of hatred and prejudice. The Department for Education should develop, quality assure and publish practical resources and tools to support schools, colleges, academy trusts, college groups, and/or local authorities in addressing antisemitism and wider hatred and social cohesion issues. These resources should include guidance and materials to help all staff discuss controversial issues and respond to significant global events, particularly those relating to the Israel-Palestine conflict and contemporary antisemitism

which seems pretty reasonable to me given kids to the tools to recognise all sorts of prejudice when navigating a very contested information space.

Read up on what IHRA is instead of writing novels and then come back and tell me if I can compare Israel to Nazi Germany under it.
