A Philadelphia woman was arrested after allegedly refusing to move out of the path of a delivery robot.

Obviously, the delivery robots need weapons for better profit maximization.

About 5 years ago, there was a hitchhiking robot that was trying to cross the US. When it got to Philadelphia it was FUBARed.

If the robot had hit the lady, it wouldn’t have been arrested, and its corporate owners wouldn’t have been charged. Because you know, the AI did it. Oopsies…

Welcome to a world where man has fewer rights than machines.

Ai is to by pass all the annoying laws we put on corporations. Suddenly its okay to pay people under minimum wage, and fix prices for uber drivers because an ai is doing it.

Its like a sub entity that gives a corporation autonomy. Oddly enough the paper clip maximizer is already the profit model we where using before LLMs so it slots in perectly. I think when we create these entities that inherently don’t have life, but still need to consume exponentially to survive that they just always act this way no matter the form.

So her gotcha reasoning is that the delivery robots are taking jobs?

I mean… food delivery has always kind of sucked, and I feel like I hear just as much negative experiences about UberEats, DoorDash and all that stuff as I do positive stuff. Plus, every time she pulls this little stunt, she’s also punishing the person waiting for their hot food.

I guess it just feels like there are better ways to protest / hijack AI & robots, such as writing & calling her local representatives, because I doubt this this self-righteous behavior is really helping anyone at the end of the day.

That person who doesn’t get their food will rethink using this service the next time now that it’s proven unreliable. Costing them business is far better than writing her representative who’s going to look at that letter compared to the pile of “lobbying” money they’ve received and wipe their ass with it.

Disorderly conduct, such as obstructing vehicular or pedestrian traffic, is not a made up offence. A good lawyer could make this very, very damned interesting though.

“Offense defined.–A person is guilty of disorderly conduct if, with intent to cause public inconvenience,…”

        https://www.legis.state.pa.us/wu01/li/li/ct/htm/18/00.055.003.000..htm

Sounds good, altho I wish she found a better way than screwing with the restaurant and the customer. For example, what if she had someone construct a cheap, rudimentary robot that looked like it was one of the delivery robots, then pretended to block it and got engagement that way?

Bing-- no need for police to get involved, no arrest drama (which could always go tragically wrong), no bothering actual businesses and customers.

This “protesters should be quiet and not disturb anyone” rethoric is part of the reason why the US and many other places don’t have any real protests.

No, protests should hurt the economy. They should inconvenience people. They should make noise and be heard. And if you don’t like it, join the cause and change the root issue that caused the protests in the first place.

That’s what I was talking about in the first place, genius.

And please-- it’s not a binary situation. You can make your mark and your voice heard without necessarily having to fuck over others. This is not Skynet, and this isn’t a matter of life & death. Nothing that I stated above was implausible or impotent, but let me guess… it’s not enough to protest something smartly and effectively… no, it’s gotta be something that shades destructive and violent, like the riots in France right now, right? Originally over school funding issues, and now subverted by looters & rioters in to far worse.

Motor Vehicles belong in the street. Sidewalks are the tiny little space we used to allocate for humans. I guess we’re not allowed any space now, just need to either drive everywhere or have it delivered. What a lovely society we’re building.

The street used to belong to humans, too… Isn’t having miniature robots– or bikes– a lot safer and more efficient than having to haul entire vehicles around to deliver a bag of food? Especially in tight-nit city areas where traffic already poses a huge problem for people who just want their space to be walkable.

They already took the streets from us and made those exclusively for cars. Now they want to take the sidewalks from us and make them for robots, and if you get in the robots’ way you get fucking arrested. But they’re in the way. How many people in wheelchairs have been forced to stop and wait for a robot to get out of the way?

It’s really not besides the point, it’s actually the primary reason I hate them. Sidewalks are for people.

Coming at it from another angle: I would hate for sidewalks to be taken over by robots. It feels like the sidewalks get less safe if there’s these feet-level robots running around on there. If anything they should be on the road, maybe in a faster vehicle. Maybe a bigger vehicle, maybe one that already exists. Hmm
