In a choice between “sucks” and “evil,” I know which I choose every time. In case it isn’t clear to you, I am of the firm stance that something that sucks can be tolerated or even turned into something beneficial in the long run. Evil is just evil and has no place in society.

I wish the blues had a spine or even a real platform from which to launch anything sensible. At least with Obama he made healthcare his platform, and he was so adamant about it that even the Republicans had to deal with it. Was it a stunning success? No, because it was shot full of holes in congress and crippled before it ever got off the ground by the original McConnell group. Obama was not at all representative of my beliefs in most of the rest of his actions, but the man did his best to effect positive change. Nobody else has done that or anything close since, and prior to that we have to go all the way back to the Depression and public works programs to find anything similarly beneficial to the public. Oh, and Social Security. Which has been gutted by - wait for it - Republicans.

And DSA is the first incremental step back towards that. You form a third party and see how far you get without Citizens United money.

If we actually get any say with the Democrats, I don’t believe we do, the leadership needs to change and rules need to be in place for how the party is funded but the government is so compromised I’m not sure where we would have to start. We have ended up a feral country, and even our economic relationship with the rest of the world has changed forever.
The fascists are here and have autonomous killing drones and are part of the military now so I’m not too sure.

And the DSA movement is taking that illusion and attempting to effect the change we seek, an inch at a time.
And that’s the only way progress happens right now unless you’re willing to flip the table society rests upon.
But as we have seen it does not work.
People have been preaching incremental voting as long as trickle down economics and it all leads here.
We need to go back to the New Deal era of policies and have a party that stands for those principles
