During her tenure as Florida Attorney General, Sen. Ashley Moody led an investigation into the work-release program that allowed Jeffrey Epstein to engage in sexual encounters while imprisoned for soliciting underage girls for prostitution. After nearly two years of probing, she concluded no wrongdoing. Now Moody, a Republican, is up for reelection in a tight race for a Florida Senate seat against Democratic state Rep. Angie Nixon, and she has received $50,000 from individuals connected to Epstein.

Except that we have seen some of the biggest and most well organized protest movements in American history all happen within the last 25 years, so I’m not really seeing the apathy you’re talking about. What I have seen a ton of is leadership that’s unwilling to do what protesters from the Iraq War to Occupy Wall Street to Black Lives Matter were demanding and who put a lot of time and energy into shutting down all of those movements, and I think that explains a lot more about the conspiracy theory nonsense that is cropping up in some places. When someone who just got done telling you “actually, we had to bail out the banks and we couldn’t send any of their leadership to prison” goes on to talk about the moon landing, or the importance of getting vaccinated, or other things that aren’t total bullshit unfortunately people tend to just reject all of it.
Congratulations you see action within our own in-groups and assume that’s enough energy, but I wasn’t talking about within our in-groups, of course we’re galvanized against this garbage, but are we enough?
Look at the polls in Texas, despite Paxton and Abbot being shitheels for decades the elections are super close, far more close than they should reasonably be, that’s the fn apathy I’m talking about.
Talk to any former or current Trump or conservative leaning independent and you will usually find the exact same apathy, the exact same “both-siderersisms”, and the same entitlement to something better but no idea how or what.
Most people that aren’t clearly one side or the other see both as equally bad, which is just completely f’d, and are unwilling to recognize the known threat in MAGA over some perceived threat maybe. Undecided Americans had the easiest open book test and have failed three times and will probably fail again, because of ignorance or lying about how they feel about this stuff.
What you see in the cities are not indicative of what the State is going to do politically, and not every state has a New York City to counter the vote of the rest of the state.
My point about the apathy is that far too few are as pissed as they should be about all of this, far too few people can separate the Dems from the MAGAs (which to me, is silly), and far too few Dem politicians grasp the threat MAGA represents, we should be doing “more” we should be organizing quietly, we should be preparing for when it’s time for MAGA to leave power and they won’t leave, just like last time. Also that’s not getting into the useful idiot alternative presidential candidates like Jill Stein or someone like Cornell West, whom are both working for the GOP/MAGA and their donor class and have Russian ties.
And yeah excellent point about rejecting factual information due to being biased against authority due to past failures from said authority, but facts are facts and if you cannot deal with facts then you are just a child and should be barred from serious discussion and decisions.
I’m just so fn tired of people treating blatant liars, mentally ill, and ego-driven hot-takes as equal to educated subject authorities and credible and verifiable facts, I really want to go back to at least the facade of being a serious nation with serious leadership.
there was an investigation that found this is false.
I’d be interested in seeing the research on this if you’ve got it. Cornell West is wonky but Jil Stein has every mark of being a purely spoiler candidate, the NRA which is a known Russian dark money center gave her money (last I understood anyway) and the dinner with the Russian oligarchs was extremely fishy
the senate investigation found no evidence of her taking money from russia. it goes in depth into the infamous dinner photo, and how she insisted on paying her own way. she didn’t even get a free meal out of it.
OK, useful idiot then.
she’s a physician and an active participant in social struggles. calling her an idiot smacks of misogyny, but i can probably just attribute it to unfamiliarity with her actual resume.
