“early results to date have been in relatively small, early-stage trials with patients that were carefully selected based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, and given specialized oncology care; they may therefore not be representative of most patients who might benefit from the vaccine.”

No, this is not a cure for lung cancer.

imagine a vibeslopped cancer cure that causes your toes to constantly fall off and regrow or something and they don’t know why or how to fix it.

I am sorry, you are correct. Trying to swallow a cactus does not in fact cure smoking-induced throat cancer. I messed up. I should not treat the US Department of Health as a reputable source of medical advice. Do you want me to research uses of Ivermectin to treat throat bleeding?

I don’t have the exact numbers on hand, but only like 1% of smokers die of smoking-induced cancer. Most die of heart attacks, followed by strokes and nasty infections with COPD.

And you always know you’re talking to not particularly bright specimens, when they’re sincerely talking about “the cure for cancer”. It will never exist, because cancer is not a singular thing. Cancer is a category for hundreds of diseases.

Esophageal cancer is also a big killer. But coating you alveoli in tar is not something AI will fix.

Not to mention tar lung, coughing, lower lung capacity. Add in smelling like shit to everyone around you and losing your sense of smell and taste.

Cancer isnt even near the top of those reasons for me not to smoke.

People don’t stop smoking because they’re concerned about getting cancer, if they were concerned about getting cancer they wouldn’t have started smoking.

They stop smoking so they can breathe, so they can claim stairs without getting winded, and quite possibly so they can get laid. Which is obviously something that palantir employees don’t have to worry about.

No lie, the restricted blood flow and erectile dysfunction should be a consideration if it was a thing that could affect you.

plot twist: AI does develop a cure for cancer, but the only way to get it is to pay millions of dollars for the cure because it’s owned by the richest people in the world, and they don’t want “filthy poor people” to have access to it.

Honestly. Bet. All AI evangelists should start chain smoking three packs a day to really show their confidence in AI curing smoking related diseases!

Even if cancer had already been entirely cured, that still wouldn’t make me want to take up smoking.

    • The cure is likely to still be at least somewhat invasive and unpleasant. Even if it’s just a matter of a single injection or something, I’d still prefer to avoid that.

    • I don’t want my clothes and all my belongings to be coated with a brown sheen of tobacco miasma.

    • I enjoy having 100% of my lung capacity available.

    • Cigs are expensive.

90% chance this guy is simply lying about this and talking out of his ass.

10% chance that he’s got some employees who are so sycophantic and eager to prove their dedication that they’ve actually done this as a stupid way to try and impress their boss.

0% chance that anyone has actually started smoking solely because they’re sure AI will cure cancer soon.

Yeah and there’s still COPD and emphysema. The thought of not being able to properly exhale and instead only continually inhale is terrifying. I smoked for about 15 years, finally quit 20 years ago and will never touch another!

Palantir CTO tells CBS News’ “Face the Nation”

Big if true. They’re taking up smoking very likely due to the stress they’re facing where the line must go up. I’d soon trust Sauron than any CO from Palantir.
