You act like dynamite wasn’t one of mankinds great inventions, like unironically the dude deserves far more credit than he is often times given in the modern era. Everything from bumfuck highways to the great canal works of the 19th and 20th centuries would’ve been borderline impossible without dynamite.
Bit like saying airlines are violent because the first passenger planes were based on military bombers.
That analogy is backwards, because dynamite was developed for civilian use and then found military application, while big planes were developed to drop more bombs and then found use carrying people.
I’m not talking about violence against people. I’m talking about the nature of violence. The sun is violent, but it gives life. Explosions are violent, even if nothing is injured or killed.
Not my fault the folks who came up with the prize shoved peace into the name, just noting that the invention of dynamite is 100 percent of great enough importance to earn a price being named after the inventor. Personally I think we should name each fields prize after a notable and respected person within the field for example Curie prize of nuclear physics, Sagan prize of astronomy, Darwin prize of biology, Tolkien prize of English literature et cetera. Fuck you Fritz Haber, you don’t get a prize you may have fed more than have ever died since civilization but mustard gas is horrifying get fucked.
Alfred Nobel invented dynamite. It’s always been a strange prize.

I just mean that dynamite isn’t exactly “peaceful”, but sure…die on that hill if you like.

Anyways, cheers.

That’s actually a good idea! I think we should name oilsands tailings ponds after the politicians who allowed them to happen.
