I just donated some more money to the Greens.
They should go further and call it anti-Semitic.
Nothing does more damage to the Jewish people than Zionism.
Good. That’s exactly what it is.
jews moving to palestine, buying land and creating a government to ensure the safety of jews and anyone else living there (the 2 million non jews living in israel now) is not racist or even an ethnostate, unlike the arab countries surrounding it
calling it racist just legitimises acts of violence against jews and the terrorists that are the self described genocidal racists
or maybe you mean the settlers in the west bank and their supporters who are indeed racist thieves and murderers
oh and if you don’t think gaza is a terrorist shit show what do you suppose the 400 miles of tunnels are for? not air raid shelters apparently
jews moving to palestine
like Russians moving to Ukraine and “buying land”.
Moving into another country with other people already living there, and committing acts of terror to drive them out, is indeed racist. Having laws that favor one religious/ethnic group over another is a defining feature of an ethnostate and denies the non-favored groups basic human rights.
The fact Amendment 3 was voted down is seriously damning. The organisers of this motion say they don’t intent for this motion to be used to target Jewish members, but the fact putting this into writing got voted down is concerning and just plain looks bad optically.
This also commits the Greens to a political settlement (single state) that the majority of Palestinians don’t want, which makes this line from the synopsis all the more baffling:
[This motion] further affirms the right to self-determination and liberation of the Palestinian people and supports the establishment of a single democratic Palestinian State in all of historic Palestine.
Why is an English/Welsh party deciding what self-determination for Palestinians looks like, especially when it goes against the opinions of Palestinians actually living in Palestine?
that the majority of Palestinians don’t want
When were they asked this question, in a free, fair and unbiased way? Because any response you get from people under occupation is likely to be more an expression of what they think is achievable than of what’s actually desirable.
Palestinians do want a one state solution. From the river to the sea.
You sound like a massive Zionist. Or as the Green party correctly stated: a racist.
What evidence do you have that a single democratic state is more popular than a two state solution among Palestinians? Most of the polling (like this) I’ve seen says Palestinians favour the two state solution over other solutions.
You sound like a massive Zionist. Or as the Green party correctly stated: a racist.
Zionism is when you think the shape of Palestinian statehood should be decided by people in Palestine and not Brighton. Deeply unserious accusation.
I read most of your link, and none of it is about a 2-state solution, such a massive waste of time. You even have to lie for your argument about what Palestinians believe.
You must have not read it very well then:
Palestinian-Israeli Relations and the Peace Process: Support for the two-state solution stands at 44%, while 50% oppose it—virtually unchanged from ten months earlier. Yet support for a specific two-state formula based on the 1967 borders is considerably higher, at 56%, including 61% in Gaza. Confederation receives 14% and a single democratic state with equal rights 10%. At the same time, 58% believe the two-state solution is no longer practical because of settlement expansion, and 64% see little or no chance of an independent Palestinian state emerging within five years.
You’ll notice that the 44% (and 56% with 1967 borders) support for a two state solution is significantly more than the 10% for a single state with equal rights. You’ll also notice that the above exert says mostly the same thing as that Pew Research poll you linked.
But yeah, accuse me of lying about what Palestinians believe by providing a source that asks a different question. ‘Do you want a two state solution’ vs ‘do you think a two state solution is realistic’ are not the same question, nor is the latter evidence that Palestinians want a one state solution like you originally claimed.
You are correct I did not read that part it is far down.
Your suggestion is still misframed becauses Palestinians believe it is impossible and will never happen too. Even in your link:
At the same time, 58% believe the two-state solution is no longer practical because of settlement expansion
A two state solution has been rendered impossible because it would only work by expelling all the colonists that have stolen Palestinian land in the West Bank.
Most Palestinians would prefer the knee of their occupier of their necks rather than having to die for full restitution of their rights. That is why they would be willing to concede some land. But that does not change that all of Palestine still belongs to them.
There is no reason to start off from a softer position in international politics than demanding all that belongs to Palestinians be returned to them unless Palestinians make a deal with Israel to divide the land. Israel is currently in a position to do that but unless they are under pressure they will never make such a deal. One should not concede that Israel has the right to any part of Palestine as a starting position.
If Israel fails to make a deal while they have the upper hand then their right to any land entirely falls off.
If you oppose Zionism then you cannot start off from the position that a racist genocidal ethnostate should exist next to Palestine. Do you think Palestinians would want a two state solution if they gained the upper hand militarily? As if Jews wanted a Nazi Germany right next to them.
Given the role of the British empire in the history of modern Palestine, they do have more of an obligation to make things right than most nations.
An obligation to try to force Israel into a proper peace process sure, but not to impose its preferred form of government on the people there.
Apparently supporting something means imposing it on others…
Yeah, they should have just let the nazis take over.
Wtf
The British were fighting the Nazis and some Arab groups sided with the axis (mostly against the British colonialism). The naza tried hard to get to what is now Isreal and had special death squads set up to go in. The war solidified the need for a Jewish state, and it wasn’t just a random decision, nor was the animosity between the Jews and Arabs new - many Jews saw the Arabs as extensions of the Nazis that had tried to exterminate their race. So what was Britain to do? Let the Nazis win? They created Isreal as per the new world government. It was a shitshow, but it was a shitshow well before Isreal was created.
This is not a commentary related to the current genocide that Isreal is doing. I think Isreal has lost its right to be a country as it is now. But who’s going to impose a new ‘solution’ - you know in 50 years people will be saying this new solution, whatever it might be, is morally reprehensible.
Don’t you know white british people know better? Didn’t the empire teach you anything?
</s in case it’s needed>
DSA did the same thing, we basically spent more time debating our exact position on Palestine than anything that could make us a relevant national org (like internal democracy), and nobody cares, like I couldn’t even tell you how I voted or what outcome was.
Obviously it’s a bit different as the Greens are an actual party, but anything more specific than self-determination is LARPing, did they at least pair it with something useful like a commitment to an arms embrago & BDS?
The GPEW has supported those for a while, they even reaffirmed their committent to both in 2024 when they voted to recognise Israel as an apartheid state.
This motion does do some good things, like calling for Palestinian prisoners to be released and de-prescribing Palestine Action. Here’s the full motion if you’re interested (the important part isn’t too long), I’d link to it directly but you need to be a party member to see it. There was some amendments proposed, but the only one that past was removing some commitments in other documents to pursuing a two state solution – which I think is equally absurd position for the GPEW to have.
This whole motion has taken so much of the oxygen in the party and all it will materially do nothing. Like I do think racism is an integral and inseparable component of Zionism, but I just don’t think this motion has or will do any good.
