Active users of President Donald Trump’s social media platform have dropped like flies.
Trump’s Truth Social site, where he threatens other countries and posts self-aggrandizing AI slop, has experienced a dramatic drop in daily active users of its mobile app since last July, according to the Financial Times.
The outlet, citing estimates from the digital market intelligence company SimilarWeb, reported that the mobile site’s daily active users have plummeted from 436,000 in July 2025 to only 261,000 one year later.
What I don’t understand is why people are still on Facebook and X. They should start a community on the Fediverse.
The retired navy guy who owns a bar in ohio and his friend group knows nothing about the fediverse, are not exposed to people who would.
Fuck, it seems many people in tech don’t know about it, either. At least from my anecdotal experience.
Network effect is hard to overcome. Just try getting a few people to sign up with the Fediverse, nevermind an entire group. I remember trying to tell co-workers - in tech, mind you - about Diaspora and how they should sign up and check it.
I was met with dumb stares or questions about how it’s going to work if there is no money in it, or asking about “who is on it” (meaning, celebrities and so on) etc.
And that is from people in tech. JFC. Nevermind trying to explain it to people who have zero interest in tech…
I felt like I was talking to normies in the pre (public) Internet days and trying to explain USENET to them, or explaining BBSes…
Facebook hides its true colors well enough that they layman has no idea why they should avoid it. X on the other hand openly has a CSAM generator running as a feature, and people are fine with it.
Old habits die hard.
You mean, the people who know why social networks such as Facebook and X are bad, who despise their owners, know of the existence of the fediverse, how to use it and want to be fediverse evangelists in their social circle? Dozens of them.
