Trump wants MAGA rallies. Many Republicans in swing races want him to stay away. Both may get their wish.

Donald Trump has promised to campaign in the 35 most competitive races before Election Day. But his midterm blitz opens this week in friendly territory — Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama — and that may be by design.

Trump visiting a swing district would “be a net negative for the candidate there,” said a White House official, granted anonymity to discuss political strategy candidly. “The closer the race, the more the [Republican candidate] is trying to break from President Trump.”

Others inside and around the White House describe the same logic: keep Trump away from contested races, where moderate voters who are unenthusiastic about him cast the decisive ballots.

“The closer the race, the more the [Republican candidate] is trying to break from President Trump.”

But only until after the election, when they’ll be right back in lockstep with him.

He’s gonna pull a Hillary for the same reason Hillary did it…

Friendly territory also suits Trump himself. “The rallies are like a sacred thing for President Trump, and they always have been,” the White House official said. “He would rather spend his last election cycle having big MAGA rallies — and you get those in Oklahoma and Texas and in Alabama and Florida.”

He doesn’t want to go and change people’s minds to gain votes, he wants an adoring crowd telling him he’s stunning and brave.

So he won’t just spend his time doing that, he’ll spend all his money doing that instead of it being used to campaign where they need the votes.

Since RNC money is basically trump, this helps Dems in every close race. If trump wasn’t doing these rallies, that money could be spent in battleground races

He knows he’s gonna be dead soon, and he doesnt give a shit about anything but himself. It makes sense that he wants to spend his last days on earth having his ego stroked

That’s exactly why I think he is obsessed with “naming” things, like the dumbass thinks that the names will be his legacy, but we are all just going to keep calling things what their real names are, other than the straggling margin of cultists that remain.

The only thing that should be named after Trump is a whole swathe of laws that specifically prevent anything like him ever happening again.

Yep. All of us are going to try to revert everything as soon as possible.

Also, his time in the WH will always be something referenced as something embarrassing and shameful and destructive to America.

He may have some inkling of this, but I seriously doubt that he or his cult members have any idea just how he’s viewed by normal Americans.

I just wish he’d get on with it. I’ve been hearing about his shitty health for what feels like a year now and somehow he’s still going.

        Nope.

It’s what I just explained it is.

Powerful people who spend their lives surrounded by “yes men” expect to be treated like that 24/7.

They’re not gonna take questions from voters of the opposite party and try to gain votes like progressives do. They’ll go to where everyone loves them and be adored but never gain a single vote.

Everyone going to a rally is already voting for that candidate.

It’s a complete waste of resources due to hubris, that’s it.

They’re still going to cheat as much as possible, though. They already are with all that mail in voting shenanigans.

            It’s not just a politician thing…

It’s why billionaires always get weird, why CEOs are selfish assholes, why a small business owner usually ends up acting like a dictator, or even teachers punishing students for being right. Or why celebrities do horrible shit and act surprised people don’t like it and call everyone haters…

Even why chat bot addicts withdrawal to the chatbot and stop talking to real humans.

Like, aging does play a factor due to how an aging brain deals with confusion, but this is perfectly normal human behavior. If someone stops getting negative feedback, when they get anything other than praise it feels like insults, and the person starts avoiding anyone that might do anything other than unadulterated praise.

Hillary didn’t realize what she was doing and neither does trump. He might think what you said as a rationalition, but that’s all it it. Just like Hillary’s “I don’t need to campaign outside of Blue states” was something she almost certainly believed at the time.

            But was clearly wrong.

Not getting any negative feedback will fuck up any human brain. When’s the last time you think trump took negative feedback without coming up with an excuse why the person who said it isn’t just a hater?

I still would not be at all surprised to learn, sometime down the road, that all the advice Hillary was getting was actually correct, and that things were rigged in donnie’s favor.

And that all the chattering classes reacting with “golly gee, we had no idea just how popular donnie really is/was, we have to move even further to the right and bend over backwards to not show the least bit of ‘liberal bias’ (meaning, reporting the facts)” and “Hillary really bungled this” and “we need to find a lot of maga-whisperers to parachute into flyover country to learn what the average American is really thinking”, etc. were not at all the correct takes.

It’s funny that the states where he can expect large rallies are the most embarrassing ones in the country.

Kind of surprised that Missouri isn’t on the list. Then again, for how shitty their elected officials are, I will say that the people in Missouri are surprisingly kind/pleasant. That may explain why it’s not a good rally state for him

Our state government has had a republocan supermajority for a while now. They regularly reverse voter referendums that pass by huge margins.

Fortunately I’ve seen a lot of support when we’re out canvassing or making calls. At Oktoberfest this weekend our tent was almost always busy while we watched the republican tent next door was empty almost all day (I never saw someone stop and talk to them, but surely someone did). We even had a lot of out-of-towners thanking us for being out trying to flip MO.

With Talarico, Texas has every chance of electing a Democrat to the Senate; Trump and the Republican Party at large are investing tens of millions of dollars into the state’s election in an attempt to prevent it.
