Unfortunately not many folks care to make the distinction. It’s the same attitude that got loads of Japanese living peacefully in the US and Canada relocated into concentration camps during WW2.

He was baselessly accused of antisemitism like many others who were at least slightly critical of Israel. I suppose it used as a weapon to easily smear his character and political platform some find unwanted, some like AIPAC he pissed off earlier and/or just plain bigots. Nothing would stop them from tooting that horn whatever he does.
