Man everything is a problem for the music industry, isn’t it? I’m pretty sure YT itself was once considered problematic by the music industry.

Besides the listing, the yt-dlp callout doesn’t ask for anything concrete. There is no takedown request, call for blocking measures, or any action against the developers. The submission also doesn’t mention that the software can be used for lawful purposes.

Rule #1 in the playbook: never mention that the thing you want gone can be used by ordinary people for ordinary purposes

YT and the music industry signed a deal. The music industry says jump and YT says how high. That is why your non-copyrighted work can be taken down for copyright infringement but you can’t take down their theft the same way.

As a musician who uploads stuff to YT this is too true. I’ve gotten multiple copyright notices over the years on 100% original stuff. I’d be more pissed if I made money from it tho

Right now this is just a request. They are saying they hate this thing. They have a right to say that. If we’re lucky, the EU tells them to fuck off.
