The White House has launched another taxpayer-funded television ad before the midterms, this time featuring imagery of President Donald Trump walking down a hall as audio plays of him saying “this is the final battle.”
“We will cast out the communist, Marxists, and fascists. We will throw off the sick political class that hates our country. We will rout the fake news media, and we will liberate America from these villains once and for all,” Trump says in the ad, echoing comments he made during a Veterans Day speech in 2023.
Watching from the outside, I’ve never doubted they would. USA has always been so disgustingly patriotic, to the point of ignoring everything bad about the country in order to fuel their imagined self image as “The Greatest Country In The World”. It was always going to be like this, when most of the country is that brainwashed and ignorant.
US Americans have zero pro-social cultural values. Bunch of anti-social ones though.
I think it was letterman that started his show with “from New York, the greatest city in the world” that they unreflectively cheered for years … which I think is an example of how brainwashed even the more liberal Americans have been over the last 50 years. Their entire culture has been leading to this point.
They were never the good guys.
One of the first things I learned about climate change in the 90s was the US didn’t ratify Kyoto—and Bush withdrew in 01. Never the good guys. We can go back further (Allende, Nicaragua—not the good guys there either).
But still, even many liberal leaning people, think they are the greatest. And they laughably think this is a blip.

Which makes complete sense, since it’s very obvious that we aren’t the greatest country on earth when a 25 year old with a degree has to struggle just to survive and can’t afford rent and going to the hospital bankrupts them.
If you and to just dismiss this as “getting triggered” then go ahead, but that would make it very obvious that you only know this country from TV and the internet and don’t actually talk to people from here.
I don’t buy that completely. I had a to travel to a very liberal part of the US during trump 1… I would say the liberal patriotism (what some have better called American exceptionalism) was still thriving. While I fully understand people’s belief have gone down hill over the last few years (like your source says), I think it was more sudden than that. Also I’m not sure it won’t bounce back and revert to mean under a different government.

There’s American Exceptionalism sure, but in my experience even an unpatriotic New Yorker thinks NY is the best city in the world.
The only people you’ll find actually saying that are New Yorkers. And they have said that shit for a LONG ass time. Their arrogant delusions are sort of unmatched when it comes to having the “best”… whatever. Pizza, bagels, art, etc. they’ll claim everything they do is the best in the world regardless of reality.
Hey now, other cities are welcome to flex about their pizza and bagels if they’re actually better than NYC’s (they’re not).
If you know where to go, you can find them just as good or better in Jersey.

I love NYC but no doubt there are a lot of insufferable people there. It says a lot about how much the city feels entitled to dominating the state’s culture that the word “New Yorker” only means people from the city.
If you’re from anywhere else in the state you have to phrase it in a more awkward way (“I’m from upstate” or “I’m from NY state”).
