Isn’t the plan for the third runway to essentially build it as a bridge into the nearby reservoir? That never seems like the most cost effective option, they just want to keep the main airport is being Heathrow even though it’s poorly situated to be a main airport.

I don’t think HSR would cover all the extra capacity but domestic mainland flights make up 5-8% of London flights which certainly weakens the case for a new runway.
Do we need an alternative? How about we just keep it as it is.
Because we don’t live in tiny little villages anymore people want to get around and we should make sure they can do that without damaging the planet.

Major then majorly fucked it, by privitizing the railways (include the deadly decisions to privitize tracks), and Blair didn’t unfuck it, so plenty of blame to go around.
