Trump tries to dominate at the UN as his approval ratings plummet and even some Republicans stray from the script
Donald Trump stood before the United Nations on Tuesday and threatened to “annihilate” Iran. Yet even as the most powerful man on the planet flexed his military muscles, he was powerless to keep the gravitational pull of domestic politics at bay.
Heading into the UN building in New York, the US president was questioned by Kaitlan Collins, an anchor at CNN, which he had banned from the White House before a judge ruled against him. “I’m surprised that CNN is here covering me,” the 80-year-old snapped. “You should not be here covering me.”
The lashing-out was a reminder that even Trump, who has expanded executive power and dominated the national consciousness, finds some things beyond his control. Indeed, 20 months into his second term, there is a widening gap between the president’s self-perceived invincibility and the reality of his waning influence.
Federal courts are reining him in. Congressional Republicans are straying from the script. Poll numbers are tumbling to historic depths, driven by persistent inflation, rising fuel costs and an increasingly unpopular war in Iran. For the first time since his improbable political resurrection, Trump’s aura of authority is fading.
This is worthless. Everyone in the article believes his need for power and authority is about glory and ego. Not one mention of knowing he’ll go to prison for the rest of his life. Not one mention of raping children.
I don’t think he thinks he’ll go to prison at this point. He spent his entire life avoiding it.
America isn’t like this because Trump is president, Trump is president because America is like this.

He’s also like the Joker. He’s a reflection of hypocritical, first-world corruption, capitalism and consumerism. The citizens rely on Batman (establishment wealthy centrists) to save them every four to eight years. And when Batman fails to truly change material conditions, they let out the Joker from Arkham again, who promises to maintain their first-world consumerism.
Of course, the joker is a psychopath who wrecks shit, so he also fails on his promise to improve material conditions. He worsens them. The citizens get pissed and cry out to billionaire Batman again. Joker gets thrown to Arkham again for four to eight years. Rinse and repeat, without ever looking within themselves to see how they perpetuate the evil cycle of exploitation.
Even if voters didn’t directly vote him, they still support the system via there dollars to all the corrupt things. It’s exactly by design to serve the capitalist class. Batman and Joker are from the same DNA of the wealthy lineage.
If Americans woke up and addressed the true problem, which originates from their collective obsession with materialism and stop relying on Batman to save them from the Joker, then the joker has no reason to stick around and Batman becomes irrelevant.
That’s pretty much the entire MO of the Angry White Man.
The whole demo freaked the hell out after Obama and seeing where demographics are going. That’s why they absolutely love the loser that is donnie.
As Chomsky said: they (well, not donnie) have a right to be mad, but they direct their anger at all the wrong shit.
There is no peaceful solution to conservatism/fascism. It’s time to finish our civil war properly.
We still need to hold back our enthusiasm for midterms until they happen and to see if all os well.
Remember when Mike Johnson refused to seat an Arizona House member ? Even if the election is free and fair, despite their gerrymandering efforts, we need to be prepared for the lengths the enemy is willing to go, because I can guarantee you, they are willing to go further than any of us realize.
The diplomats should have gotten together and all looked at their watches if he threatened Iran, yawned if he talked about his vanity projects and planned on other scenarios.
I see no evidence of weakening power, this reads like a plea to get people to stay home and not vote.

But just like Trump found out in Iran, power comes from how much you can get others to go along with your plan. He has power when people capitulate in advance to his illegal and unconstitutional orders. Sure, the way he operates will become more illegal and unconstitutional when you ignore him, that won’t make him powerful so long as nobody listens to him. The journalist boycot in response to the press pass denial was the first thing resembling a spine from the media.
Emphatically agree except for the last sentence unfortunately, I think the reason that journalist boycott happened is because members of the White House press pool have agreement with each other to share resources
Like, the whole reason for a press pool is that it’s a logistical impossibility for every interested news organization to get a journalist into most events because there just isn’t enough space, so CNN Fox etc. say “Ok, your employees cover Monday, we do Tuesday, WaPo does Wednesday, etc., and we all share whatever video or audio we get.”
So, I think Fox heard about CNN and the others getting banned, and they were like “Oh so now we’re responsible Monday and Tuesday? Hell no, I’m not paying the staff hours for that, concentration camps and extrajudicial executions I can forgive but I will burn this government to the ground if they make me go over budget this quarter.”
It’s out of self-interest I agree. And now that it affects them, they are skipping the sanewashing on this one issue. If it didn’t affect them, they would be reporting on it like:

The journalist boycott has happened before. Last time Trump banned reporters, all the major outlets stood up for them. Whatever you think about any of those outlets, they all understand that an attack on one of them could just as easily be an attack on any of them - especially with The Idiot in charge. That’s why they respond in the way they do.
Weirdly, it’s a similar argument that supports the unions many of these networks spend so much time railing against.
I might be overthinkging or worrying too much but if Dems do win in the midterms i really fear what he will do.
They have shown disregard for the courts, and congress so its not like anything they say or do will stop him and his cronies.
After the loss I think he may actually try to invade if not outright nuke Iran. He wants to be remembered and revered so much he will do anything and completelt unshackled in a lame duck period he can and likely will do anything.
He’ll scream and cry cheating, and 100% will try to discredit any Dem that wins.
The article says that afterwards America will be “paralyzed” and its enemies will use this time to act. Which sounds like part of the plan too. With a Congress that has been intentionally hobbled, trump can just do what he wants even more.
We’ve already seen that every head of every government agency will just do whatever he says. Keeping Congress paralyzed in an pretend “legal quagmire” is just the shit-smear of legitimacy he needs to fully and complete take the reigns as king of the toilet.
They talk about Taiwan and Ukraine. They don’t mention it, but Israel will finish off Iran and Palestine and start on its other neighbors. It’s going to be bad all over, starting January next year.
There is no peaceful solution for conservatism. The millions willing to fight need a communication platform that won’t censor our discussions and planning. We don’t have any such platform right now.
