I am upset seeing the BBC get salami-sliced into oblivion. I really hope the government commits to increasing funding of the BBC as part of the royal charter review, as its funding has been cut so much in real terms over the last 20 years. I want the government to be stepping in now with stop-gap funding to stem the flow in the meantime.
Like so much with the UK and austerity, I fear that we won’t know what we had until it’s gone.

Almost everyone who complains about the BBC I can tell didn’t grow up with absolutely no options other than commercial crap.
Having not just a channel but an entire service that is free and it’s motivations are not to convince you to buy something, is incredible.
My children were raised in a place where we had an option to access ad free programming where I can be reasonably certain the people behind it are not motivated by pure evil.
I’ve lived with and without the BBC, I am very critical of it in many ways, especially it’s coverage of the UK gov and controversial topics, but if it’s allowed to be killed off it will be a monumental loss to the UK
The funding model is at it’s root completely unsuited to the present day, it’s idiotic. It maybe made sense in the 60’s but not anymore. For the BBC to survive the government needs to have a good serious think about how it’s going to be funded.

Capitalist tactics. The tactics of the owning class that consider themselves above you. Don’t give any of them a pass, they respect no borders and are not confined to america
