GM has never put tanks inside the door.

They’ve put them inside the cab behind the bench seat, and outside the frame rails under the cab which was a safety nightmare.

The closest is the Ford Pinto where they stuck the fuel tanks behind the rear axle and it would explode if you got rear ended.
