this is my question. like instead of redesigning every car, why not just use some sort of computer vision to remove the gas cap, and then move a robot arm with the nozzle into the car. hell that’s 100% easier to retrofit or make new gas pumps like that than redesign hundreds of thousands of cars.
not to make the point that it would be even easier to just stop production of gas engine cars and go electric.
or the easiest ‘change’ is just to have attendants work the pumps like they do at a lot of gas stations. i remember not even 10 years ago being able to pull up to a full service gas station and never getting out of my car because an employee would come to my car ask me how much i wanted and what type, and then remove my gas cap and insert the nozzle. then go to the next customer.
Electric cars just move the power generation elsewhere - often a gas- or coal- powered plant. Yes, large power plants can have better treatment of waste gases, for lower particulates and sulphur dioxides. Still produce the CO2, tho. We need robust public transport options, low-carbon power sources like renewables and nuclear, and reduce the number of unnecessary journeys by shopping locally, car sharing, and working from home wherever possible.
Completely agree - let’s stop BBQ’ing the planet. Just need to make lots of little changes, but we need to start.
