Sen. John Fetterman, a Pennsylvania Democrat, is sending fundraising emails pledging to “stand with America” and “reject the extremes” — using email lists for Republican candidates and committees.
An email over the weekend sent by Fetterman’s campaign came from the address “info@gopsquad.com” and vowed: “I’m always going to reject Socialism and the Anti-American way of life.” Other recent appeals sent from the same address encourage readers to help President Donald Trump pass new voting restrictions, to read an “urgent memo” from House Speaker Mike Johnson on fighting the left, and to back Republican Mike Rogers for Senate in Michigan over Abdul El-Sayed, whom the email compared to a terrorist and a “threat to our way of life.”
The email from Fetterman’s campaign comes as the senator has moved closer to the Republican caucus, rankling his Democratic colleagues and spurring rumors that he might switch parties. He received the maximum allowed contribution from GOP megadonor Harlan Crow, as The Intercept reported in July. But the use of Republican fundraising infrastructure represents a new step in Fetterman’s confounding electoral strategy.
Because that would be STUPID. Fetterman is a dickhead, but he’s still a Democrat, so that gives the Dems one more seat toward the majority. If the Dems flip the Senate, then his single vote might be the only thing that gives them the majority. Even if he always votes with MAGA, the Dems would still control the Senate, chair all the committees, decide which legislation goes to a vote, etc.
This is the same as when Joe Manchin was doing the same thing. People complained about him, but by remaining a Democrat, he gave them an extra seat toward the majority, no matter how he voted.
It’s an unsatisfying outcome, but it’s still better than a MAGA majority. And just remember, it could have been Dr. Oz.
Does having a majority actually matter if your colleagues always vote against you?
Of course it does. If Dems had a one vote lead in the House and Senate, every nightly news broadcast would be about that days congressional testimony by one MAGA scumbag or another. People would be going to prison. If the Dems controlled Congress, that Big Beautiful Bill abomination never would have passed, because it would never have come out of committee.
There are only three branches of Congress. Holding the majority in any of those branches is a really huge deal - OBVIOUSLY.
And unicorns would give me blowjobs. And dogs and cats would start to become best friends.
