Former Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), who is also the current Democratic Senate candidate for Ohio, found himself in hot water in a past campaign over his response to anti-trans attacks from Republicans, and now he appears to be taking a different approach.
Instead of trying to defend or explain his views on trans rights, Brown released an ad last week slamming Republicans for focusing on trans people at all, when there are so many bigger challenges facing the state.
Why are they so obsessed? What did transgender people ever do to spark such a visceral hate? There’s a caustic bitterness to these people that seems to be eating them alive.
What did disabled or gay people ever do to the Nazis? Fascists need outgroups as a target for their hatred. It gives them a sense of purpose, and it unifies them, since they are all cultivating the same hole in their morality. Small and marginalized outgroups are easy prey, and trans people don’t have much of a voice in the public sphere, so it’s easy to paint them as monsters.
I mean for one Ohioan, I satisfied his ex wife in ways he never managed.
No idea why so many others there hate us so much. It sucks because I could’ve just kept living there and continued contributing to the state had they not started passing transphobic laws
