This is from a regularly scheduled Everglades Bike Club weekend ride in Key Biscayne, USA, on a 10km stretch of road, and all the drivers know to expect it will be there in the mornings.

At first I thought it’s a good idea. Now I think that maybe cars flying past may be a problem if something happens and someone falls or just swings out of lane, then it would require a bigger space, but cars will likely just think that this space could also be used and fill it.

On the other hand, I know nothing about how to organise these safely, and I’m always afraid of cars, so prefer to be on separate bike lanes whenever possible

Cars are constantly getting into bicyclist spaces, I never had so many close calls as when I was wearing high vis in the bike lanes. I swear they swerve to see how close they can get.
